Khush Khabar this month
|

Hello friends,
Here in California, we haven't got enough
rainfall this year. But the Motion Picture
Academy showered 8 Oscars on Slumdog
Millionaire. Even Sean Penn and the cutie
pie Dustin Lance Black won for Milk.
Unfortunately, the economy continues to get
worse and no one is left unaffected. This is
a time to be sensitive and compassionate to
our fellow human beings and stretch out a
helping hand. If nothing else, just a warm
smile or a comforting hug to those in need
around us goes a long way.
Trikone is looking for new board members. So
if you're interested in joining the board
and think you have it in you to make the
commitment and make a difference, please go
to our website at www.trikone.org and
send us an application before March 14. There
are 4
vacant positions on
the board and we are actively looking for
applicants to fill these positions. The
application
form is
up on the Trikone website.
So, lets look at the month that went by and
see what's in store in the near future.

Looking back
|

The last Chitchat and Chai was about
"Planned Parenthood: Adoption and
Surrogacy". We had approximately 40 people,
including a community member's father,
visiting from India, attend this event.
Terry Person from Adoption SF spoke about
adoption by LGBT people, and Kaiser
Mulla-Feroze, who with his partner has kids
through surrogacy, spoke about his
experiences. The entire session was highly
informative and interesting. There will be a
follow up session soon, which will focus on
sperm donation and in-vitro fertilization.
Nirali hosted the Women of Trikone's support
group. The Women of Trikone events are quite
popular and we hope that more and more women
will attend other Trikone events too.
Trikone partnered with DeFrank
TwentySomethings and East Bay Express 20's
to organize the men's speed dating event.
Quite a few south asian gays attended and
hopefully went on to find their Valentines.
In other news, the Trikone board worked hard
to come up with the annual budget for 2009.
We will continue to have all of the regular
Trikone events and activities such as
Chitchat and Chai, potlucks, movie nights,
Pride, Kulture Kulcha and other parties, and
also continue to bring out the Trikone
magazine on time. All of this requires
funding. In these hard economic times, it
isn't easy and we need the entire community
to pool resources so that we can tide this
over.

Looking forward

This evening is the first ever Trikone
Townhall at
the Opera
Plaza Community Hall in
San Francisco, and if you haven't yet heard
about it, well, its time to crawl out from
under that rock! More information on the Trikone website.
We want to see a lot of you there. We'd like
participation and feedback and suggestions
from you. We
will also be presenting the budget for 2009
at the Townhall. It
will be a fun evening, with snacks and
drinks and some prizes too. Ms.
Lina Sheth, Director
of Community Development and External
Affairs, API Wellness Center has
kindly agreed to be the moderator for this
meeting.
Tonight is also the NCLR
dance party at
the Vibe Lounge in Oakland, which is also
co-sponsored by Trikone.
We should also start planning for Kulture
Kulcha 2009 and
the most immediate task at hand is to find a
venue, preferably in SF or Oakland, which is
larger than the CA Ballroom and has a proper
stage and banquet seating. If anyone knows
of such a venue at a reasonable price,
please let us know ASAP. We have outgrown
the CA Ballroom venue. Please
email trikone@trikone.org if
you would like to be involved in any way,
including performing, ticket sales and
volunteering.
Soon, we will also start the ball rolling
for DesiQ2010.
Watch out for calls for committee members
for DesiQ2010.
Have a mad mad March and remember to do your
bit during these testing times. And please
continue to volunteer your time and
resources for Trikone.
